Bogus traders target the elderly

Posted on September 02nd 2009

Much to the dismay of TV programs like 'Rogue Traders,' members of the public are still being targeted by cowboy tradesmen, who take advantage on the elderly.

A 95-year-old man is the latest victim of bogus tradesman in Southport; a recent survey has found that rogue traders, disguised as handymen, are approaching more and more vulnerable people.

Victims are often elderly and vulnerable and live on their own making them particularly attractive to dodgy handymen who cheat their victims out of their cash and pensions. Many tradesmen convince customers to pay upfront or for work that is incomplete or not even started.

Three victimised people have come forward so far reporting the treatment they received from immoral tradesmen. However many experts fear that there are many more victims out there who are falling to such an unethical crime.

Professional tradesmen are being urged to show identification in order to protect the client and the tradesman from any malpractice.

Tradesman Cover provides competitive liability insurance for over 50 trades spanning form construction to engineering.
