Construction company ordered to make changes

Posted on October 28th 2009

A construction company in Watford has been charged and ordered to change the way it handles health and safety procedures, following the death of a worker.

The 61 year old man, Mr. Kinsella was killed at the construction site in Watford when a 14 tonner digger that he was attempting to fix crushed him to death. It was found that the crucial machine arm control lever that held the mechanical arm in place had not been left in neutral so as soon as he removed the safety catch to fix it, it swung round with brutal force, crushing him.

The company has been forced to put into practice a new set of risk assessment procedures, which will prevent a tragedy, such as Mr. Kinsella's from happening again. Compensation was gained from the construction firm following the disaster, however Mr. Kinsella's widow commented that the six figure sum will not compensate the loss of her beloved husband.

Ensure that your company complies with all health and safety procedures in the workplace, as well as employers liability insurance which can be purchased from Tradesman Cover by filling in a simple online form to get your liability insurance quote today.
