Royal Mail to be fined after workers death

A worker for the Royal Mail has been cleared of workplace violations after he reversed his vehicle into a colleague. The incident occurred when Ian Wheeler was attempting to link his tractor to his trailer at Heathrow Worldwide Distribution Centre in Langley.

Mr Wheeler denied the charges claiming her did not know that his colleague was stood between the vehicle and trailer at the time of the accident. Royal Mail have pleaded guilty to the charges of breaching the Health and Safety at Work Act and will be sentenced on March 10th.

Judge Stephen John had described the family of the victim, Colin Smith as acting with 'conspicuous dignity', and praised them for their support for Mr Wheeler.
