Posted on September 09th 2009
As the recession bites the self-employed and construction tradesmen are having to find other ways to supplement their income. Many take second jobs or join construction agencies, however one tradesman decided to become a courier - a drugs runner.
Vicent Barsotti from Glasgow was caught red handed at a garden centre when Barsotti rolled up in his workman's van with over 200 kilos of cannabis resin stored in cardboard boxes.
Barsotti's accomplice, Birmingham based Christopher Bergin had previously delivered the drugs at the Dobbies Garden Centre in Milngavie last September. After a tip off, the police kept a close eye on activity surrounding the garden centre.
The judge, Lord Turnball sentenced the tradesman to a sentence behind bars and said that it was "simply a disgrace that someone of [Barsotti's] age should result to criminal conduct."
