Worker injured due to lack of tools
Posted on October 07th 2009
£25,000 in compensation has been awarded to a worker who severely injured his hand after not being supplied with the right tools for his job.
Mr Offer, from Essex was working on the dismantlement of a tractor which was required to be shipped across the world, however he required a specific hammer to take apart some of the tractor. Despite complaining he was told to get on with the job, he reached for a piece of metal, which had already been used by another employee who had created a serrated edge, unknown to Mr Offer he carried on his job and ended up severing the tendon in his right hand.
The injury has left Mr Offer with permanent nerve damage and a loss of grip; he has been unable to return to his previous job, however still works for DSV Road Ltd as a driver. He is very conscious that if he was made redundant he would be left unemployed due to the limited work that he can do.
